Summer Fun: Olympus E P-1

Summer Fun: shot with Olymplus E P-1 from Mike Kobal on Vimeo.

A few short clips shot with my new Olympus E P-1 in the ART6 filter movie setting, walking around in Central Park, East River Park and Lincoln Park. Olympus is mysterious about the frame rate, I guess it is around 8 fps, shot at aperture 4 with the kit lens. Fun effect. The E P-1 is the best compact camera for still photos at the moment, small footprint, manual controls, big sensor, great image quality. The movie mode is not up to that level, aperture control but no AE lock. Still a great little toy that can be carried around all the times. The clips are ungraded, right out of the camera, this is the color and effect (vignette) the ART6 filter produces. Music: Twistedtracks.com

I was given an E-P1 as a birthday present the other day. Cool, I know. Anyway inspired by your Central Park shoot I went out and shot some footage at the Edinburgh Festival using Art6 and no post processing other than assembly.

Great video. We run Photography workshops in the Virginia area, and have just begun to also incorporate video because its there.

I am not a video person myself, but have other instructors who are. But for my own knowledge, how did you produce the stop/slow action, of subject hopping from place to place? I very much like the effect but did not see where it could be done the Ep-1 of which I have two in use with Olympus, Panasonic, Nikon, and Zeiss/Voigtlander lenses.

If you could email me a reply that would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

thanks Byron, Simon, the GH1 does not have a low frame rate setting or art filters, you could get something similar in post

mike just curious is this unique to the pen meaning cant you get anything like that out of the GH1 you have?

thanks guys. @WT, true, had one-returned it- now bought one for my gf to take on a trip- had to test it first of course ;) @Simon, yup, thats the art filter, no grading straight out of the camera. I did play with changing the frame rate, mostly at 200% or 300% speed. some is handheld, some tripod and some just resting it on something. with the low frame rate it is easier to shoot handheld.

    crazy stuff very cool
Is the footage straight out of the camera as far as the slow motion effect goes, or did you modify in Post Production. Oh and was this all hand held, or tripod as usual.
