There are days when I don’t want to think about photography and this is where the RX100 comes in, I grab it when I don’t plan to take pictures. As it usually happens, once I relax I start “seeing things” and miss having a camera on me

iphone vs Sony RX100 battle, guess who won

Here are a few tips on how to set up you RX100 for street shooting:
1) turn off focus assist light and sound
2) get the fasted SDHC card currently available and shoot raw.
3) output at 10 megapixels instead of 20, unless you print large, this will pay off when the image needs cropping and for high ISO shooting.
4) Center point single shot auto focus, image review off, the speediest way to focus and to “get it”, staying with the wide angle also helps
5)play it safe with shutter speeds (steady shot on) and shoot about 2 stops faster then the focal length selected
for instance, if you are shooting at 28mm, don’t go below 1/125.
6)familiarize yourself totally with all camera controls and practice a steady hand
good luck shooting!

Hey, nice pics! question: what is that Incoming search terms: plugin you are using? Can u mail me the answer? Thanks
Hi Jean Pierre. Shoot raw at full resolution. Example, 20mp, 5472 x 3648 pixels, downsample to 10mp, which equals 3888 x 2592 pixels, you gain quality and minimize noise
Hi, Mike
Really nice pictures. You mention: “output at 10 megapixels instead of 20, unless you print large”. How do you do this and wat is a “large” print? I don’t understand your reply on andre’s similar question and in what way is there a “noticeable quality jump”?
Thanks,
Jean Pierre
Hi Simon, LR or PS to process, shooting in S mode at a minimum of 1/125 or higher
Hi Mike,
On the RX100 what program wold you use with your suggested settings above?
Thanks,
Simon
Hi Ande, most of the time, I shoot raw and I found a noticeable quality jump when “oversampling”, outputting at 10mp produces amazing results
Hello Mike,
Regarding the Sony RX100:
You mention “output at 10 megapixels instead of 20…” What do you mean ? I see no menu option for output size.
Thanks,
Andre
glad you like the shots, Stefan
thanks for your comment, Erwin, I am sure you won’t be disappointed with this little gem!
Beautiful pictures of a beautiful city.
Landed on your website looking for stuff on the RX100 and I hope I get to use mine to its full extend as you did.
Thanks for sharing!
I really like the ‘bus stop’ picture. It has a certain ‘perfect moment’ about it because of the three people, one looking out of the picture, another with her back to the camera and a third looking in the camera (from left to right, and height in picture decreasing in the same order). It really creates great lines in the picture.
The japanese couple is pretty awesome too… the woman looks like she might be suffering from the ‘paris syndrome’
thanks my friend!
Looking great Mike!
Hey Rick, of course! I always shoot raw, and use ARC to dodge and burn like in the old days shooting film, convert to b/w and split tone in ACR. never opened in photoshop
As for split toning, just play around until you find the color you like.
Can you share any details on the B & W technique which rendered the fine look in these photos. Was it in camera or in post. Thanks
