Quick look/review:Bower Nipon Canon Eos to micro four thirds m43 adapter with aperture control

This is a very useful and reasonably priced adapter, well made, no problems mounting my Canon lenses, image quality is very good as long as you stay within the suggested aperture range (markings from 1-6).

You can get one here. I have tried it with the 28mm 1.8 and the 50mm 1.2, the latter is my favorite portrait lens on the GH2 now. This adapter is also available for Canon Eos lenses to Sony Nex mount. I like having a main Camera system and a very portable secondary system and this adapter allows me to use my favorite lenses on my micro four thirds bodies. Exciting times! I will post photos and 100% crops shortly!

You mentioned that you purchased another cheaper adapter on amazon that you returned for various reasons. Can you tell me which one that was so I can avoid it? I was considering the Fotodiox Pro Lens Mount Adapter with Built-in Aperture, mainly for the price point. If it is a waste of money I will just save up for this one. Thanks for the help.

on zooms, you only have a usable aperture range about 1 stop or less before it vignettes like crazy, it will produce totally black edges, doesn’t happen when using primes, you have an effective aperture range of about 4 to 5 stops

Hi, thank you very much for this adapter review.
Now you said to “Kevin” that this adapter…
“…works great with primes but not with zooms…”
Well this makes me curious… I would like to ask you: What exactly makes an adapter like this work “less than great” when used with zooms, opposed to primes??

hey Kevin, there is no glass in the adapter, just the aperture ring, works great with primes but not with zooms, I mostly use it with the 28mm, 50mm and 100mm

Did I see correctly that there are actual glass elements in this adapter? Why would they be needed – you can add an aperture without glass – and if I’m buying this to use nice L-series glass, I don’t want to add cheap glass behind it…

you have to manual focus and set the aperture on the adapter, set your camera to “shoot w/o lens” in the menu and shoot in aperture priority or manual mode.

btw, the volume of the mic on your video is a big high but your voice is low so the sound comes out good. I understand everything you say perfectly. Perhaps the person having audio problems is having problems with his own volume setting? :P
Where are the picture you took with this setup?

    Thank you

    Thank you for that video.
I have a panasonic GF2 and I was thinking about these lenses and the adapter. I read in a website that the lenses will not autofocus nor the Aperture will work…
With this adapter do you stop using the aperture of the lens? do you have to manually focus?
    What about image stabilization?

    Thank you
    Rafa

hey Aries, make sure you push/or pull that release nob down as far as possible, and apply a bit more force when you turn the lens, if it still doesn’t work take it to a photo store. I never had that problem usually it doesn’t go on or the tolerances are too tight and the lens doesn’t snap in.

Nice video, however the audio level was so low that even at full gain I could not understand what you were saying. Some of the other videos that I checked out had good levels. Maybe you should play your videos back with a level meter of some kind to check levels before posting them.

Or check them out after posting and re-post with good levels after checking.

Otherwise, very good videos. Keep up the good work.
