When I got back from my run this morning there was a package from BH, the replacement Sigma 19mm f2.8 EX DN (my first copy was DOA). A beautiful day here in NYC and I had about an hour in the afternoon to take it to the streets, more images and first impressions after the break
No problems with the replacement lens, like the Sigma 30mm, the built quality is pretty good, the front element does not rotate, internal focus keeps the physical size on the lens constant and don’t forget to shake it for the Rattle Royale experience. Auto focus speed is almost identical to the 30mm, perhaps a tad faster and in still mode, obtaining auto focus, we have the aperture clicking sound (unless wide open). The 19mm is a a little bigger then the 30mm, still looks and feels well proportioned when mounted on the Nex 7.

I skipped the brick test and started shooting right away, I like the focal length, it can be challenging when shooting street since we need to be closer to our subjects. All shots where taken in M or S mode with center point auto focus. The 19mm appears to be just as sharp as the 30mm and if you are on a budget lusting after the Carl Zeiss 24mm 1.8 but can’t fathom spending 1K, get the Sigma 30mm and 19mm and save 700 bucks!

I like to be in the middle of it, both lenses are great for street shooting, I prefer the 19mm. As for getting close, candid shots, the A6000 shutter is too loud. One really needs a totally silent shutter. I am usually shooting in full manual mode and try to stay at 1/125 or higher.
Great street shots. I have both the Sigma 19mm and 30mm for my a6000 and sons NEX-7. Which do you prefer for street when out shooting? What is your normal mode for Street shooting with the NEX-7? P mode or S or P? What is your min shutter speed? 1/250 or faster? Do you mainly do street from the hip/run and gun or do you secretly compose without them watching? I love Street Photography and trying to get out to do more of it with my a6000 which has super fast AF. I just wish it has a SILENT shutter mode like on the A7R2 upcoming soon. How do you deal with the shutter sound when on the street (cough loudly?
) even with Electronic First Curtain Shutter enabled? Thanks keep up the good work
