Just stumbled across this clip by inevitablecrafts, looks sweet, eh? The Nex 5N and Nex 7 are both very capable video cameras, however, the main problem is handling, balance and expandability. The bodies are tiny, which is great when carrying them around on a daily basis, for serious video shoots however we need a cage that allows us to rig them specifically for the shooting situation. I notice you are using a NEX7 and Nex 5n a lot for professional jobs. As you said in earlier blog posts they are very formidible video cameras but lack a good ‘base’ to support larger lenses and suffer issues with cooling and durability as well as sturdiness when tripod mounted during focus pull.

This is a prototype camera housing for the nex 5N. it adds fan cooling which prevents overheating during prolonged video record mode, additional lens support for larger lenses such as cine lenses and anamorphic attachments. A nice large footprint for sturdy tripod mount and a nice rugged finish witha bit of extra water resistance. Finally – good news for 5n owners who want external flash, this unit will provide internal docking to the smart accessory port to provide flash trigger as well as an external mic socket TBC.
We are in the process of finishing all hard prototyping before going into batch manufacture here in the UK. At present we are setting up a kickstarter program for people interested to put down pre orders on the enclosure.
