above: my idea for the perfect Nex 7 grip
A few portraits of Alex, shot with the mighty impressive Sony Nex 7 (available for preorder for march 1st!). Ah, you noticed the grip? Something I have been (and still am) missing on this camera from day one, especially when the shooting gets serious. More after the break
Ownuser, as seen on Sonyalpharumors, is about to release one but its bulky and ugly. I decided to play around a little and came up with this simple extension. I have no need for a vertical shutter and it shouldn’t add significant weight, though I wouldn’t mind a large built in (even non removable?) propriety battery. I am just looking for a full size grip here. The Nex 7 would handle much better, especially with the LA-EA2 and Alpha mount lenses attached. Let’s hope someone will take this idea and make one, maybe even Sony! My favorite lenses for this shoot: Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro and the original Minolta 28mm 2.8 (search on Ebay).

I love all the pictures!!!!!!
I love the color rendering of the Minolta lens! Interesting.
The grip design is simple and great. I really hope someone will pick this up because it would be a big improvement how to hold the camera. I am very happy with the Nex7 as it is. But with a small grip like that it can be great! Thanks for sharing the idea.

Overall best value would be the Nex 5N and best overall video quality, the GH2. OMD we will have to wait until it becomes available. Really depends on what you shoot, For people, portraits (fashion, beauty and weddings) the Nex 7 and 5N produce great video. For city and landscape, the GH2.
Hello Mike,
In terms of video quality and also overall best bang for buck, which camera would you recommend for a beginner-intermediate person like myself?. My budget is around £1K. I have been looking into Nex 7 and Olympus OMD lately but have heard that NEX 7 video quality is not that great.
Please advise. Hope to hear from you soon.
Many thanks,
Faisal
