A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to borrow the Sony SLT65 for a couple of hours. I was impressed enough to order one and the SLT A77 for an upcoming trip in December. So, what pushed me to go with Sony?
1) absolutely fantastic EVF, the best to date (as of this writing)
2) focus peaking, I can’t live without it for shooting video (no need for an external EVF, which could be a problem with this particular job).
3)The new high resolution sensor with incredible dynamic range and great color depth (assignment calls for landscapes and portraits, no night shots)
4)1080/60P.
I am also very impressed with the new kit lens, which is optically and mechanically in a league of its own, well almost (the other noteworthy kit lens is my trusty Canon L 24-105mm), and a few lenses a friend of mine is willing to lend me for this trip. (in return, he will get the A77 for two weeks after my trip)
I am taking the super compact Sony 70-300mm G SSM, the Rokinon 35mm 1.4, the Sigma 8-16mm (very impressive performance in combination with this sensor).
I also discovered the Sony 30mm 2.8 macro, a super lightweight, fantastic performer, IF you can get over the full plastic (including lens mount) built. Optical quality is excellent and the price is right. I will post an in depth field report by the end of December, what worked, what didn’t, what needs to get improved and lots of photos.
I have to admit I never thought of using the SLT65 as a professional tool. Kudos to Sony for not crippling essential functions.

I just bought Sony A65. I am looking for wid angle lens which one do you recommend with good price too.
Depends on how and what kind of flash you want to use. Studio settings with a professional strobe I find 1/125 sufficient. Outside with a pro studio strobe you would definitely benefit from the 1/250 sync, however using a dedicated Sony TTL flashgun, something like the F43AM or f58AM, sync doesn’t matter since there is HSS (high speed sync) up to 1/4000 or 1/8000 on the A77
I’m curious about the impact of a flash sync of 1/160 vs 1/250 and the lack of the micro focus adjustment. Do you feel that this is a big reason to choose one camera over another. I’m more curious about the slower flash sync, is this a bid deal for an advanced amateur.
