Jessi M’Bengue from Mike Kobal on Vimeo.
UPS delivered the Sony RX100 the morning of my photo shoot with Jessi M’Bengue and I unpacked it while hair and make up was being done. A real pocket camera, featuring a large 1″Cmos sensor, a Carl Zeiss 28-100mm equivalent, a maximum aperture of 1.8, image stabilization, full manual video controls, af/manual focus with focus peaking and image stabilization, dream specs for such a tiny camera.
size comparisons after the break
I was eager to give video a try and the timing couldn’t have been better. Set to 1080/60p at 28mbps, Creative style to “High Contrast Mono”. No grading on the b/w footage, straight out of the camera. Auto focus works extremely well in movie mode, I didn’t experience any type of focus hiccups during this shoot. Full manual shutter, aperture and ISO control turns this crazy little camera into a serious tool. The lens is very sharp. I would not hesitate to use it as B or fly camera on commercial shoots.
a few shots of the RX100 next to the Sony Nex-7
and next to the D800E

and a real bigfinger-remote… what ever on it..but?

Matthew: not sure I would recommend it for the GH2, made a neck strap out of two hakuba neck straps (the long one) now I can carry it like a regular camera,it might be too flimsy with the GH2 and a heavier lens
What neck strap do those clips go to? I could really use those on my GH2.
Wish I could afford this for my pocket camera
thanks Roman, yes, auto focus on all the clips, no hunting
thank you Alex, actually, Jessi is a fitness model, her legs aren’t distorted in the video, not sure what happened when you watched it, perhaps the player didn’t load correctly?
Thank you Bob. I am planning to do a comparison between the Nex 7 and the RX100, so far they look pretty much the same at lower ISO
Mike, love your work and review efforts. I just purchased the RX100 to compliment my 5DIII. Quick question, I see your comments on the auto focus in movie mode, did you use autofocus for this shoot?
Love your work Mike,
Her legs look quite distorted I’m watching on a iPad 3,
Your nex7 was video
/film was really good !
Really would like to see a shoot out on best video/stills settings Nex7 vs 5Dmkiii and. Red lol
Mike: Your videos are amazing! What’s your ranking of video quality among the RX 100, NEX 7, and NEX 5n?
thank you for your kind words, Michael! glad to hear that
Mike, this video you made is GREAT! I watch all your work and your creativity is amazing! Hats down to you, this one made my morning!
