Nikon Coolpix A vs. Sony RX100 vs. Fujifilm X100s vs Sony RX1: size comparison

Nikon Coolpix A vs. Sony RX100 vs. Fujifilm X100s vs Sony RX1: size comparison

Sony RX100: 4.00 x 2.29 x 1.41″ Nikon A: 4.4 x 2.5 x 1.6″

I was a bit disappointed when I first saw the Nikon Coolpix A, uninspirational looking, probably designed by robots. A fixed 28mm equiv. f2.8, non articulated LCD, lack of EVF or tunnel viewer and I don’t know about you, the grip and the DX logo in particular hurt to look at (Gaffa tape to the rescue:). The Fn1 button is in the right place, however, it could do without labeling imho. Let’s assume AF performance is up to the task- it should be with such a slow and wide lens (the real reason for such a lens choice?), excellent image quality and a reasonable buffer when shooting raw. Now what makes the Coolpix A a contender? Its size: 4.4 x 2.5 x 1.6″ / 111 x 64.3 x 40.3 mm
I have scaled the product shots to size based on specs and these comparisons should give a pretty good idea how small the A actually is. Compared to the Fujifilm X100s and the Sony RX1 (without Gaffa tape) after the break

Nikon A: 4.4 x 2.5 x 1.6″ Fuji X100s:5.0 x 2.9 x 2.1″

Nikon A: 4.4 x 2.5 x 1.6″ Sony RX1: 4.5 x 2.6 x 2.8″
I will try to get my hands on one and let you guys know how it holds up on the “street, unstaged:)

What are those meaningless triplets of numbers following the model name? They can’t be dimensions, as there’s no way that the RX100 is 4cm by 229mm by 141mm in any dimension. It’s small, but not that small.

Yes, me too, the external dials are doing it for me, still, I am very curious how good the A performs, af speed, sensor….we shall see soon :)

I think I am still leaning towards the Fuji X100s for the vf and lens, but looking forward to your tests.

Any word on tests of the new Nikon Coolpix A or Fuji x100s AF systems? I can’t decide on which to preorder but a fast AF for street shots would help me a ton.

    Thanks!
