shot with the Sony A7s, Zeiss FE 24-70mm, wide open at ISO 4000
Shooting at the beach in NY isn’t quite the same as in California, Miami or the Caribbean. There is a reason why photo crews choose to travel
more after the break
I had completely forgotten why I avoided the beach in NY. On this particular shoot we didn’t run into problems, however, the windblown sand can certainly ruin a photographers day, on our next shoot -video coming soon- the wind was so strong that we found ourselves breathing in more sand then air, you can imagine how great this was for our equipment More on this soon, for now I hope you enjoy these images of amazing Yanina.

Maybe I’ll get tired of the grainy film look soon and start shooting everything with the A7r again and dedicate the A7s to video only, so far I am enjoying the film look the A7s brings to the images at higher ISO’s.
The Zeiss FE 24 70mm works like a charm on the A7s, for stills as well as video. Unlike on the A7r and even A7, where every flaw gets mercilessly exposed, shooting wide open at any focal length for full figure or portrait work yields pleasant results. The advantage of the 12mp sensor. Sometimes less is more.

Yes – your article was very informative – not quite sure I can abandon the DSLR yet as tethering is and issue for me and to be honest I think that here in the UK Sony’s Pro customer service/loan equipment is way behind. But I’m really enjoying shooting with the A7, and your blog has been very interesting – thank you!
right? the Zeiss 55 is the reason I dumped my DSLR’s! did you see my previous post, the FE 70-200 is nice, however it has a few gotchas.
Hi Mike, yes have the grip – am about to buy the 70-200 – just something about the A7 that is very addictive and the Zeiss 55 is just stellar!
thanks Philip! love the shot you posted from the A7, not bad, that little camera, right?
Did you get the grip yet?
Great shots Mike…
