I can’t wait to try the Sony A7r (preorder it here at BH or at here at Adorama) with my favorite Nikkor glass, like the 50mm 1.4 and the Nikkor 135mm f2. MF should be a breeze with the 2.4M EVF. It will also take the guess work out of shooting with super wide angle lenses like the Samyang 14mm f2.8, very exciting times ahead!

What about Sony/Zeiss glass for these two new full frame cameras? Legacy glass and manual focus is fun and nessessary for video, however, I am not ready to give up af quite yet, if ever.
Honestly I am not very excited about the current options: The one I am most interested in is the smallish 35mm f.2.8. It will mainly depend on AF speed if I get one or not. I am sure it will be fantastic optically. The same applies to their 55mm 1.8. Very expensive for a standard lens, I have no doubt it will be a fantastic performer optically, however, when was the last time you were longing for a 55mm? It is a bit too long to be considered a true standard lens since the ideal focal length for a full frame sensor would be around 47mm, too short to be a serious portrait lens. Ideal application for a 55mm? I can’t think of one for my type of shooting.
I think the Sony A7r is the one to get, it should make a fantastic second body regardless of the system you are currently using. Thanks to Sony for shaking up the market again!

Hi Ron! I like the styling of either, for different reasons. You are right, Sony wants us to by both, the A7 and the A7r. HAHA. I will test both, after these cams hit the market, it will soon become clear which one will be the ONE
I was ready to pull the trigger on the A7r but I’m now rethinking, seeing how the A7 will have better focus, a faster flash sync, and I have also read it will have an electronic front shutter (and the 7r will not); which should make it quieter.
Too bad the A7 doesn’t have the styling of the RX10; it’s a beauty.
Thanks John! I totally agree, most people will probably blame the sensor or camera for the crappy results they will be getting. One could still shoot like it was film with the orig 5D and the Nikon D700, however once the resolution reached 20mp+ good technique became crucial. And I remember shooting with the Nex 7, which I loved, one had to be even more careful because of the small size. Time will tell, I love working with the D800E, however, I treat it like a medium format camera or sometimes even like a 4.5″. What I find so attractive about the A7r is the relative flatness, imagine on a trip, one could sandwich two bodies together and it would still be smaller then one reg sized DSLR! Judging by the RX1 vxRX1r Sony doesn’t have it down yet, like Nikon does when it comes to sensor optimization, I don’t expect the A7r to be better then the D800E, I am hoping it will get close though
I think the 7R with the 36mp is going to be surprise for some wanting a sharp photo. Hand held will be difficult – 24mp with the Nex-7 was a stretch – and unless shutter speed is coupled to Auto ISO, which only seems to be available on Nikon bodies – it will be even more frustrating to get sharp images. I’m very eager to find your thoughts upon receipt.

Nein, aber ich bin addicted to sensors without AA filters by now :). I will definitely test it with the Samyang 14mm, which you probably know, has gotten high marks by DXO and photozone.de, and I am also interested in testing it with the perspective control 24mm. Seriously, I have my doubts that the A7 will be noticeably better for legacy lenses

Thanks Scott! I took the flange distance into account, however, I couldn’t find an adapter that would fit this collage (perspective) to be safe, add about 1/4 inch or 5mm in length, the diameter of the lens is pretty accurate

Question: given the short flange distance of the Sony body, is your mockup with the Nikkor 50/1.4 realistic, or will the use of such glass require the additional length of the Nikon to E-mount adapter that NEX bodies require, making it a bit more bulky than shown above?
thanks Derek, now that would be awesome! however, if we really get 4k, i am not sure it will meet pro standards, still a big deal with pro oriented cameras, I would love that of course and 120fps
58mm 1.4 sound great, however, it is not a very useful focal length. time will tell, exciting times for sure 
and Mike, I forgot to mention about the new Nikon lens the 58mmf1.4, which will be announced on 19th of Oct this month, will be amazing.

I personally get the non-R version because of the better AF of the non-R version.
But I am sure the A9 will have 4K video with in body SSS, and the AF will be even better.
But I honestly think this Alpha 7 and 9(comes in next year just a few days before the CES)will be a game changer and change all rules of photography.
