I left a message on youtube as well. I shoot with the 5D Mark II and the 7D and love seeing others comparing them. I was pissed when the 7D came out considering the upgrades it had compared to my 5D Mark II, but felt better after making this video. The PAN and “shutter flutter” is pretty dramatic and a real issue. Have you played with shutter speed to reduce it?

I’ve used both, and the 7D definitely has a tiny bit less rolling shutter. It also seems to have a tiny bit more noise, but the reason I got it is because it shoots video in real 23.98fps(24p) and 29.97fps(30p)! The (30p) on the 5D is exactly 30fps, not 29.97fps. That’s a massive headache when dealing with mixed footage and/or non sync’d sound.

question :
What do you mean with mount of rolling shutter in 7D ? I watch the video an I think pan looks much better in 5D .. anyway I think both cameras work grate ! Im planing to bye 7d , I took photos , love to but to film what are the recomendations.

I think the reason why the 7D performs better is because of its smaller sensor: it takes less time to scan it from top to bottom.

hello mike kobal,

i tested the 7D few days ago in a train through austria.
i got best results by rotating the camera 90 degrees –
for most jobs a fine 1080 resolution will do it and there
was no problem with the rolling shutter. i played with settings
from 1/30 to 1/4000 and all worked fine.
