I shoot Raw exclusively, but you can get wonderful Jpegs out of a77 with little effort. Read the manual:) Set Noise reduction to normal, shoot in neutral or standard with some tweaks to your liking, Vivid will put out punchy color. But do you yourself a favor, shoot RAW. High ISO shooting tops out at 3200 and some LR Luminance noise adjustments needed again to your liking 25-45% and color noise too and images clean up nicely. Live Histogram is awesome. As for studio triggers, try Elinchrom skyport EL with an adaptor - tiny and versatile.

Hey Kevin, I never shoot jpeg, its totally worth the extra work shooting raw, esp with this high res sensor, you get so much more out of it. I am pretty sure Sony is working on it, and the next firmware could see significant improvements in jpeg quality and UI

I love sony's cameras, but the JPEGS from this model look like trash, awful, sure the RAWS look good (great in fact). I've considered just waiting for the successor to the a77 (a87..?) or whatever but ...as an expert do you forsee mere firmware updates improving JPEG quality significantly? As is, the a77 seems like half a camera.

cool :) looking forward to seeing the video. Will it be in black and white like the picture?

I still havent upgraded from my d90 yet, but im still thinking a lot about the gh2.. the only thing is that the crop factor is cheaper in terms of wide lenses for aps-c censors and you wouldnt have to fiddle with hacking. Essentially, im just waiting to buy anything till I actually begin pre-production on a short film.. which I reckon would be in february or march next year.

By the way, I just finished editing a lot of footage into an unofficial music video if you're interested in watching :)

thanks! true, the flash sync problem is annoying, however I like the 2/250sync. Lately I am mostly shooting with neon and LED lights. The Nex 7 will have the same shoe mount as the A77 and we can use the same flash accessory on it. As for the sensor it is visibly better then the by now aging 7D

Nice. We are using the A77 in our studio, too. By now, it has totally replaced our 7D. Although we have never used Sony DSLRs/SLTs before, transition has been very smooth. The only thing I do not like with regard to studio use, is the fact, that you have to use the extra adapter in order to mount a studio flash trigger - especially with Pocketwizards the construction becomes a little bit ridiculous. Nex5N could be nice, too. We have mounted the Zeiss 135 1.8 via LA-E2 and it works well. But the lack of a possibility to professionally mount a studio flash trigger really makes things bad, except, of course, you do have a lot of 5k daylights...
