Hasi, did you get a chance to look at my take on the X-Pro1, if not click here
I find the EVF overall better and more reliable for AF, however if you want a truly fun camera, with incredible af speed, great handling and low shutter sound,
go for the Olympus EM5, I think you will love it. Truly a joy to use.
Wow! Thanks to Reality Check for that comment. I have been shooting with th X-Pro1 for about six months and have been very disappointed with it, so I was going to sell it and get th X-E1. But if you say it’s that bad, that’s good enough for me. I’ll sell the XP1 and get whatever camera you suggest. Just let me know, please.
I am sorry to hear the XE1 isn’t working for you and glad you took the time to post because this is exactly how I felt about the X Pro1 when I first shot with it, you can read about my thoughts and frustations here.
The Fujinon 35mm 1.4 af is slow and it can be difficult to lock focus and one should stay away from constant motion and life-action. But this also applies to the Canon 5Dmk3 and D800E with a 50mm 1.4 to a certain degree, both mis-focus wide open quite often, they just do it a lot faster.
I was able to get good results shooting life action with the XE1 and the 35mm -in good light- and was pleasantly surprised with the performance (click here for the post) I have learned to work around the cameras limitations and find af sufficiently fast with the latest firmware and the 18mm for moving subjects and street photography. It is not a sports camera but neither are traditional rangefinder cameras, which obviously inspired the Fuji X line.
The photos aren’t intended to showcase “decisive moments” just the ability to achieve nice bokeh with an APSC sized sensor.
Horrible examples of what the X-E1 is or what it
was engineered for. No one is questioning the
still life, posed, full sunlight quality and art
of this Sanna ‘series’. They are frozen portrait
shots. The X-E1 was not intended as a still life
portrait camera, nor are the X series lenses.
The X-E1 was intended for life-action constant
motion, almost tourist snap-shot photo-ops, and it
fails miserably at that. The EVF and every day life
motion light (normal to low light, especially indoors)
is almost defective exactly as Fuji engineered it.
My 6 year old niece, literally, could take shots
as presented here with her $39.99 kitty digital
camera, with a frozen motion model and tons of
outdoor sunlight.

Thanks Mike! I have the same camera…. so thats one of two, now to work on my skills and hope I can create great images like yours one day :). Really love your work!
Thank you, James! Converted to dng to fit my regular workflow, minor issues with swirl-like noise pattern if sharpened or blown up, however most of the time not an issue.
Great images man! Looks great! That little 35mm lens is pretty damn amazing…I was wondering what raw convertor you are using for your little fuji powerhouse to get these great results? Or are these all straight out of camera?
thank you so much, Eduardo! so glad to hear that from you.
Mike, unbelievable beauty ! all photos are fantastic, but the photo one , I don’t remember seeing a better fashion photo than this in recent years and I saw a lot, congratulations ! Sanna is from another world and you able to show that ! great idea about the crow, worked very well in the composition !!!
