After Canon announced a manual firmware upgrade I went out and got one. This is my first video with the Canon 5Dmk2. I can’t imagine movie mode without manual controls anymore. Very intuitive and straightforward. To use my Nikon lenses I purchased a few $6 Nikon – Canon adapters on Ebay. I am also using Hoodman’s Hoodloup 3.0 with the cinema strap over the LCD for focusing. Works great. Lenses used: Nikon 75-150mm 3.5, this is now my favorite tele lens, on the D90 and the 5Dmk2, it is already extremely sharp wide open and very light and small. 17-35mm 2.8, and my new favorite normal lens wide open the Sigma 50mm 1.4. Crazy sharp at 1.4 already. Everything shot from tripod, ISO range, 200 to 2000.

I just wanted to let you know how glad I am to have found your video of June 14, 2009. I just recently purchased a Panasonic dmc-lx5 primarily for its video capabilities. I am working on learning techniques that make my videos different as well as better. The way you opened the video by filming the reflection of the people was great. In fact the whole thing was great. I’m going to try some of your ideas in my videos. Thanks

My new Hero! It is one thing “hearing” about something new, but totally a different thing to see what this can mean. Clearly for a DSLR the Canon 5D Mk II has some incredible utility. However the real artistic genius is squarely in your hands Mike! Totally awesome that you would share with the WWW! Makes me want to fly up and attend one of your classes! Can’t wait to get my 5D MK II copy as I just sold my 5D which I loved. I hope I can get the results with my Canon L lens series, 17-40 / 24-105 & 70-200 zooms that you have so elequantly shown us. I really want to integrate HD onto my website. I do a lot of New Model Homes around McKinney and I mostly shoot in natural light stills with my 40D. Now I have other ideas with the HD Video. I saw your post on DPR on this video. Very impressive!! This is exactly the type of stuff I want to do. I had a 5D forever and just got a 5Dii a week or so ago. I live in Manhattan, if you’re interested, I’d love to go shoot with you some time and get some pointers on the video side of things. What was with all the flash photography in the concourse? Was there some special event on, or was that just people taking photos of each other?
It sounded like the music was clipped towards the end, but that could have just been my computer.
I have to hand it to you – You did a remarkable video using what you had, AND the first time out- I appreciate you posting the tech info and PLEASE keep doing that – looking forward to more videos
thanks debora. i think the Nikon video quality is good. just wanted to get a new toy ;O) but of course it is great to be able to use old Nikon Lenses on the 5Dmk2.

Thank you for posting the technical information. Being a Nikon shooter, I am very invested in lenses. But find myself disappointed with the d90’s video capability and lack of manual control.
Now I will be researching Nikon to Canon adapters & 5Dmk2’s.
Can’t wait to see more of your work.
